    Fear aura (Su): Liches are shrouded in a supernatural aura of death and evil in a 60-foot radius. Anyone of less than 5 HD who looks upon them must make a Will saving throw (DC 16) or flee in panic as though subjected to a fear spell from a 6th-level sorcerer.
    Paralyzing touch (Su): Any living creature the lich touches must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 16) or be permanently paralyzed. Remove paralysis and remove curse are effective in negating the paralysis. A person ensnared by the paralysis of a lich seems dead. A DC 20 spot check or a DC 15 healing check reveals that the victim is still alive.

    Description: Kanya is a woman of medium height and curvaceous build. Her arms are completely skeletal, and her eyes are nothing but empty sockets lit with pinpoints of light. She normally wears deep maroon or black clothing with long sleeves to conceal her arms, and hides her hands in her sleeves or wears gloves. On her face she wears a simple gray mask with smoked glass in the eyeholes.

    History and Personality: Kanya was once a dabbler in arcane magic and part of a disreputable adventuring party. During an Underdark expedition her group discovered a magically-tainted pool, and during a fight with a group of hook horrors she was knocked unconscious and rolled partway into the pool. The magical energy somehow transformed her into an undead creature similar to a lich. Over the next few days her eyes and the flesh on her arms rotted away, and she fled from her companions and spent a year alone researching her developing abilities. She has worked alone, with at least one powerful undead monster, and the Cult of the Dragon. She is paranoid and sensitive about her condition, but she has found that as long as she keeps her arms and eyes covered, her fear aura is inactive, so she can interact with normal people if she is careful. She used to be very proud of her appearance and is horrified by the changes in her body. She appreciates the power that comes from her new form but is not sure she wanted to pay the cost.
    Unlike a true lich, Kanya has no phylactery. She realizes that she will be destroyed completely if she is harmed and has been researching how to transfer her life essence from her undead shell into a real phylactery.
