The cult of Khostren is known for its association with giant insects, and sometimes it adorns its elite temple guards in armor made from the shells of giant insects. These temple guards look bizarre but are quite effective in dealing with common threats to the temple. They sometimes ride giant insects as mounts.

Certain members of Khostren's cult guard abandon the weapons of the other elite guards and chose a two-weapon fighting style, using great insect pincers carved with handholds and wristguards. These weapons are treated as short swords with locking gauntlets. Like the other elite guards, they sometimes ride giant insect mounts, but because their weapons are shorter they generally let the mount do the fighting, or ride into battle and dismount to fight side-by-side with the steed.

Some of the leaders of Khostren's cult understand the magical and alchemical methods necessary to mutate normal and giant insects into strange forms, and have adapted these methods to mutating humanoid creatures. One process creates a winged goblin with some unfortunate mental instabilities, another produces a goblin as large as a human (though they could simply recruit actual hobgoblins, the process allows them to give existing goblin followers a power incentive to serve the cult). This leader of the temple guard is one such enlarged goblin, and the other goblins look upon him with awe and obey his orders unquestioningly. His battle horn is used to call the troops to battle or send other simple signals.
