Molten gold oozes are a little-known form of ooze that look much like
a gold object that was melted. Their diet is mainly small creatures and
carrion.
A molten gold ooze is about 12 inches across and
no more than an inch thick. It resembles an inverted gold plate or a gold
object (such as a cup) that has been melted. Mindless and weak, it is easily
slain by larger predators and even some prey, so it is usually confined
to locations where a larger creature could not enter or where the food
supply is incapable of supporting a larger creature. Rather than growing
to larger sizes, a well-fed molten gold ooze reproduces by splitting into
multiple creatures of approximately their normal size.
Combat
A molten gold ooze strikes like a snake, slamming opponents with its
body.
Acid (Ex): A molten gold ooze secretes a
digestive acid that dissolves organic material and metal. Any melee hit
deals acid damage.
The ooze's acidic touch deals 15 points of damage
per round to wood or metal objects. Armor or clothing dissolves and becomes
useless immediately unless it succeeds at a Reflex save (DC 10). The acid
cannot harm stone. A metal or wooden weapon that strikes a molten gold
ooze also dissolves immediately unless it succeeds at a Reflex save (DC
10).
Blindsight (Ex): The ooze maneuvers and fights
as well as a sighted creature by using nonvisual senses (scent and vibration)
within 60 feet. Invisibility and darkness are irrelevant, though it still
can't discern ethereal beings. It usually does not need to make Spot or
Listen checks to notice creatures within range of its blindsight ability.
Camouflage (Ex): It takes a successful Spot
check (DC 15) to recognize a motionless molten gold ooze for what
it really is.
Constrict (Ex): A molten gold ooze deals
automatic slam and acid damage with a successful grapple check. The opponentÌs
clothing and armor suffer a -4 penalty to Reflex saves against the acid.
Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability,
the molten gold ooze must hit with its slam attack. If it gets a hold,
it can constrict.
Ooze: Immune to poision, sleep, paralysis,
stunning, polymorphing, and mind-influencing effects; not subject to critical
hits or flanking; blind.
Fiendish Molten Gold Oozes
The drow deity Ghaunadaur, who rules over slimes, oozes, and similar
creatures, is served by fiendish molten gold oozes. Followers of ghaunadaur
(or those that know the proper invocations to make when casting) can use
a summon monster I (or higher) spell to summon fiendish molten gold
oozes. Like all of his ooze minions, their minds were destroyed by him
for some long-ago slight, so they are no more intelligent than their normal
kin, but the do have additional abilities for being outsiders.
* change type to "outsider (evil)" (it still retains its ooze
qualities, of course)
* SR 2
* Smite Good (Su) once per day for an additional 1 point
of damage (usually used on its first attack).
* Alignment: neutral evil
